Read this article on the opinions of LEDC nations on GHGs and answer the following questions.

1. What do LEDC nations hope to accomplish with this new Environmental Movement of reducing GHGs? Do you think MEDC nations will listen/respond?

2. Who do you think should make the initial move in reducing GHGs, LEDC nations or MEDC nations, and why?

  1. 1. They hope that their movement will inspire other countries to do the same. I don't think MEDCs will respond, because they will most like see this as an opportunity to pollute all they want and have it cleaned up for them by the LEDCs. It has already been shown how unwilling they can be to accept changes like this, and this will only motivate them to ignore it even more.

    2. MEDCs, mainly because the have the money and technology to do so, and LEDCs are still mainly focusing on survival and development, not how to do so sustainably. Also, it's our fault so we should at least fix it.

  2. 1. There are 49 countries in the Least Developed Countries (LDC) group. They have indicated a willingness to accept binding cuts in GHGs to address global warming. The LDCs are leading by example and saying, "follow us."
2.To paraphrase from the article, industrialization and development have largely caused the human contribution to climate change so the MEDC nations have the obligation to lead the reduction efforts.
Given the recent steps taken by the LDCs, the hope is that the More Economically Developed Countries (MEDC) will participate more willingly.

  3. 1. LEDCs hope to tackle climate change through carbon cuts lies with industrialised nations, which emitted most of the carbon dioxide currently in the atmosphere. I think MEDC would not respond immediately, but I think when they see how effective their actions are, they would also try to cut CO2 emissions.

    2. MEDCs could make the first move since they would have the greatest effect on the environment because we have the means to do so (such as technology), on the other hand, this would require commitment and cooperation of various groups so it's not likely in the near future.

  4. 1. The ultimate goal of the LDC group is to inspire other countries to take action like they are in being environmentally friendly by addressing the problem of global warming. I think that the MEDCs will take their time in responding, but eventually they will also take action like the LDC group and try to reduce emissions.

    2. I think that MEDCs should be the ones making the first move against global warming because they have access to tools and technology that LEDCs don't. MEDCs also have more money to fund such projects. What money that LEDCs do have is to improve their quality of life and most of the time they try to do it the easier way, not the most sustainable way.

  5. 1. LEDC nations hope to get other counties to act the same with this new Environmental Movement of reducing GHGs. I don't think MEDCs will respond or they will respond very hesitantly because they will pollute more and will not be motivated to clean up.

    2. MEDCs should tackle global warming because they have the technology and the money. I also think that MEDCs feel guilty in a sense because they are causing the most pollution.

  6. 1- LEDC nations hope to accomplish cuts in carbon, and to inspire others to do the same. I don't believe MEDC nations will listen, nor respond, as their countries are so developed and depend too much on the carbon they use.

2- I believe MEDCs should make the first move in reducing GHGs as they are much more looked at and would therefore be a more important example to follow by many other countries.

  7. 1) LEDCs are aiming to cut emissions of armful gasses by a ;arge amount. They appear to be leading a movement that the rest of the world still struggles with.

    2) MEDCs should make the first move towards reducing these pollutants, as they are in a much better position to make changes to their infrastructures and budgests, as they are much more developed.
